TIM ANDERSON (b. 1964)
Born in Long Island, New York, Timothy Anderson has worked professionally as a sculptor for the past 20 years. He studied at the Art Students League of New York with Sidney Simon (1917-1997) and Jonathan Shahn (1938-). Tim's work has often been compared to the work of Alberto Giacometti. His elongated human forms constructed with plaster or Epoxi resin resemble shadows of foregone characters. While Tim avoids rendering physical detail in his figures, he pays special attention to the rendition of movement. Each figure transcends its own human inspired boundaries, to become a harmonic volume that occupies a space in and around itself. The frozen figurines seem to project into the viewer's space with a force that compels the eye to move around its shape. Scale is an important element in these works. The doll size figures often posed as dancers at work or at rest, fit the hand of the sculptor and for that matter of the viewer, regressing one to the playful times of childhood. Tim is an avid reader who lives and works in L.I.C., New York.
