RUMIKO TSUDA (b. curious)
Born in Wakayama, Japan, Rumiko began working with an interior design and display design firm. She traveled in 1970 to California, where she studied fashion design at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College. In 1980 she came to New York and studied Art Education at the School of Visual Arts and then obtained a graduate degree in Painting and Sculpture from the same school. Rumiko has also excelled in the field of performance art. Her works have been acquired by private collectors in the U.S. and Japan. Rumiko's paintings reflect the eclectic background of their creator, while the abstract works recall textures and colors used in indigenous textiles, the figurative paintings are reflective of her acquaintance with a variety of cultures in her travels. Rumiko's work encompasses fashion, design, painting, sculpture, collage and mixed media. These works reflect an elaborate combination of materials, technique, and work experience. Rumiko lives in Williamsburg, Brooklyn with her husband Danny, an accomplished sculptor, and their son Mauricio.
