PAUL MULVANEY (b. 1970)
Born in Poughkeepsie, New York, Paul Mulvaney attended the School of Visual Arts and later studied at the Art Students League of New York with founding member of the New York School Richard Pousette-Dart (1916-1992). Paul has lived and worked in New York as a professional artist for the past 17 years. His works have been acquired by private collectors in the U.S. Paul has also extensive experience as a painting instructor and as a studio art director. He recently co-founded a full service art studio in partnership with artist Cora Mancini. Paul elaborate abstract oil paintings are the result of a labor-intensive process that involves the careful and systematic overlapping of delicate layers of color. In his latest works he uses wood board as a support surface, which frequently is assembled in layers that provide a solid ground to the painting. The dichotomy between lightness and heaviness, color and transparency, geometry and nature is expressed in these works that render the simplicity of two opposites meeting in the grounds of beauty. Paul lives and works in New York, for his two children and his art.
