FREDDY BORGES (b. 1955)
Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Freddy began his studies in Civil Engineering at the Universidad Central de Venezuela. He then switched gears to study Ceramics at the Escuela de Artes Visules Cristobal Rojas with Cándido Millán (1930-) and Carlos Ochoa. While living in Caracas, he also joined the Instituto Universitario de Estudios Superiores Armando Reverón and the Taller Escuela Arte y Fuego. In 1999 he traveled to the U.S. where he studied Sculpture at Art Students League of New York under the direction of Gary Sussman (1952-), Jill Burke and Jonathan Shahn (1938-). Freddy continues to complement his training as a sculptor and ceramicist attending workshops that deal with materials and casting techniques. He has also consolidated his work under the brand Borges Fine Arts, and periodically features his latest designs in New York City trade fairs. Freddy's ceramic work is represented throughout the U.S. by interior design and home accessories retailers. His sculptural work has been exhibited in the U.S, and Venezuela and has been acquired for private and public art collections. Freddy only drinks Pelegrino water and often works in his studio in Brooklyn until the wee hour of the morning.
